Thigh Lift: The Surgical Answer to Inner Thigh Laxity

The inner thigh has some of the thinnest, least-supported skin on the body, making it one of the first areas to sag with weight loss and age. Chafing when walking, restricted clothing choices and skin irritation are the complaints patients mention most. A thigh lift removes the excess skin and fat and reshapes the inner leg line.

Technique Options and Scar Planning

For limited laxity of the upper inner thigh, the scar hides in the groin crease (mini/horizontal technique). For more extensive laxity, the scar runs vertically along the inner thigh — a longer scar, but the only approach that can also tighten the mid and lower thigh.

Which technique fits is determined by the direction and amount of skin excess; assessment standing and sitting at consultation forms the basis of the plan. See the procedures page for details.

The Day of Surgery

The operation takes 2-3 hours under general anaesthesia, usually accompanied by liposuction. A one-night hospital stay is standard.

In major weight loss patients, a thigh lift can be combined with a tummy tuck or gluteal reshaping — or staged separately for safety.

Recovery: Area-Specific Precautions

The inner thigh is a high-movement, high-moisture zone, so avoiding wide strides, squatting and leg-spreading movements in the first two weeks protects the suture line. A compression garment is worn for 4-6 weeks.

Desk work resumes in 10-14 days; short walks are encouraged from day one, and sport from week six. Soft padding when sitting keeps pressure off the incision line.

Realistic Expectations

A thigh lift clearly improves contour and resolves chafing — but the scar trade-off must be accepted. Pink and visible in the early months, the scar matures over 12-18 months.

It is not a cellulite treatment: as skin tension improves, cellulite may soften in appearance, but it does not disappear.
